Today’s featured home on Barndominium Life is this beautiful Texas barndominium built by Sparks Custom Homes LLC. This barndo gives new meaning to the words modern country and really showcases just how comfortable and cozy a home built from a metal building can be. The design of this house is absolutely perfect and is something that we have never seen before. With such a unique style and such an interesting profile, we can’t wait to dive in further and take a look at everything this home has to offer.
Editor’s Note 6/26/24: We were able to chat with Lane from Sparks Custom Homes LLC! Here are the notes from our call:
Have done one other barndo – man-cave type thing, lots of bays for parking toys. Grey one is ultimate man-cave., built for his dad (single man). It’s in Richards, TX on 26 acres.
Conroe one was His personal home for two years. His wife found one she liked, used Lane’s drafter. Outside looks similar, inside changed around.
Fit their lifestyle, have horses, dogs (1 big and 6 horses), etc. Entertained a lot, held a big crowd easily. Back porches were nice, could grill on big porch out back.
Views were great, put speakers throughout the house, bedrooms, living areas, etc. Had music playing went walked up frontoor, doing things in garage, pretty inexpensive.
He’s building same house again, making it larger, adding more details on outside. Made laundry room a bit larger, added an office to new one, put master in back and office in front. made kitchen a bit larger (no issues with these things but trends toward larger laundry/kitchen).
Built really fast, framing in Nov and moved in April. Lived there two years then sold it, building this one to sell as well. New one more of a barndo. Older one is def a barndo.
Used LVP flooring (very durable, looks like engineered wood flooring, user-friendly), to get black window look used aluminum windows (called bronze, cheaper than all-black windows). Wanted beams in living room, but too expensive. water well and generator as well. wood-burning fireplace. his wife preferred electric cooking, but ran gas to the range.
Homebuilding his primary job – has this new one and also does remodels as well. Had one in river oaks Houston, very high end. One coming up heights in Houston as well, historic home.

Exterior
The first thing we noticed about this Texas barndominium is that it has three main units that are connected by a larger metal building in the back. This is such a great way to bring together the unique styling of a barndominium but not limit yourself to the stock look of a metal pole barn. At first glance, there is nothing about this home that screams “barn” and we think that is one of the best things about it.
We also love the configuration of the windows and how they all have their own individual placement. This is a great way to give each section of a building its own character as well as let in enough natural light to make the inside feel airy and open. The back porch pillars are also incredibly well styled and fit in perfectly with the color scheme of the rest of the house. Matching that natural wood with the whie and dark roof provides a great contrast.
There is even a separate porch that is distinct from the covered patio area. Having this lead up the door of the home is a wonderful way to delineate between the grilling area and the area for gathering. Plus, it provides a cozy entrance into this Texas barndominium that is absolutely essential. We love how this separate space has its own style with the herringbone brick patio and the vintage looking furniture.
Interior
Living Area
Inside, you can really see how those windows and the large glass doors bring in the natural light. This is so essential with steel buildings and we think it is incredibly well done here. There is nothing like being able to get that light inside in the morning or early afternoon and brighten up the interior. Plus, it brings in some of the beautiful surrounding landscape that this Texas barndominium is built on and provides a real connection with the outdoors and all that the view has to offer.
Inside, there is more beautiful brickwork and a rustic, country cabin-like feel that works so well. Bringing in some of the detail of those bricks to the fireplace is such a nice touch and warms up the interior nicely while still referencing the exterior facade. We also love the color scheme of the inside. The warm off-whites and the beautiful hardwood floor make this Texas barndominium so welcoming and inviting. Not to mention, the rich wood of the furniture and the bearskin rug that really brings the whole space together.
In the living room, you also get an excellent sense of the height in this Texas barndominium. Those three separate units give it a large ceiling that feels grand and spacious and at the same time very cozy. Plus, this room also gets the benefit of the arrays of windows at the top. As you can see in this photograph, they give you an excellent view of that blue Texas sky and really make you feel like you are simply outside gazing at the clouds. This is the kind of connection that is so important in any home.
Kitchen
If there is one word to describe the kitchen, it would be “adorable.” The kitchen in this Texas barndominium is so well put together and wonderfully designed. We love the large windows that face out at the sink as well as the beautiful backsplash tile that goes all the way to the ceiling. This also helps give the kitchen a sense of height and space. We love the light fixtures that are both modern and vintage at the same time. Plus, the amazing range hood that matches with the rest of the cabinetry in this Texas barndominium kitchen is an excellent touch.
Bedroom
The bedroom features more windows for amazing natural light and more of that hardwood floor that is incredibly rich and warm. The color schemes in this Texas barndominium are so well thought out and put together. The off whites mixing with the grays are a great touch and help offset some of the more natural colors in the home.
Bathroom
This Texas barndominium is packed with style and nowhere is that more apparent than in the bathroom. The tub is a wonderful centerpiece but the shower is just as beautiful and luxurious. Plus, it has more of those unique light fixtures that bring a touch of elegance and class to the whole thing. Everything about this Texas barndominium is unique and well-done and we absolutely love it.
