This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom barndominium in Georgia built by the Sims family is an amazing example of the barndo philosophy. It takes a relatively simple layout and makes something unique, livable and unbelievably stylish.
Jessica designed the layout, designs, and general contracted the entire project. They also did many of the finishes themselves. Considering this barndo was built in just 5 weeks, it is truly incredible how well the plans came together.

Athens Georgia Barndominium Exterior
Front
The exterior of this Athens Georgia Barndominium is artfully designed to include much more than meets the eye. The gray paint with red trim is a beautifully modern color scheme that is not only easy to maintain, it is also an eye catching choice. We love how the gray metal siding gives an industrial feel while the red trim is warm and inviting.
The white roll up door gives the exterior a manufactured and contemporary first impression. However, it is what is hidden behind the simple facade that makes this Athens Georgia Barndominium truly special.
Back
The backyard of this Athens Georgia Barndominium is something to behold. The modern design touches are meant to make the most out of a small space and they manage this incredibly well.
The raised deck works to separate out the different spaces of the backyard. The natural wood color is a fantastic contrast to the gray metal siding and brings an organic feel to the entire backyard area.
A nice artificial wall that cordons off the deck is one of the most eye catching features of the backyard. It works in tandem with the raw wood deck to bring a warm, natural feel to this space. It also helps encapsulate the sitting area and give it its own, self-contained ambiance.
Athens Georgia Barndominium Interior
The foyer was created for indoor/outdoor space. They can have a functional foyer or roll up the bay door and have a great indoor/outdoor space for games to watch on the TV. The tile was laid by Jessica and her friend Alicia.
While the exterior of this Athens Georgia Barndominium is incredibly impressive, the interior is where it really shines. The functional design and fashionable decorating come together perfectly to create a cozy and stylish home.
Kitchen
The kitchen in this Athens Georgia Barndominium is both comfortable and practical. The color scheme uses contrast to make the small details pop. We love the white and green color palette. It is clean looking while also bringing a bit of nature into the home itself.
Jessica and her mom put up the backsplash themselves. Jessica shocked the crap out of herself on an electrical socket.
The green brick tile backsplash above the stove is perhaps the most prominent interior design choice in the entire home. We think it really shows the creativity of the barndo’s designer.
The kitchen also features a Murphy door with built-in cabinetry. This door opens up to the laundry and utility room to create a more open floor plan when it is needed. We love this feature and think it is perfectly utilized in this barndo.
The combined kitchen island and eating area is another innovative design choice. The “Paski’s Peacock” color paint on the island matches the brick tile backsplash for striking effect that ties the entire area together.
Another great use of space in this Athens Georgia Barndominium is the hidden drawers and storage areas in the kitchen island. Combined with the stainless steel appliances, this helps keep the kitchen looking clean and uncluttered even if there is not a lot of space.
Living Area
The living area of this Athens Georgia Barndominium is open and offers a fantastic flow between the kitchen and the other areas of the home. The polished hardwood floor is homey and warm-feeling without being so dark that it starts to make the space feel smaller.
We love the green painted sideboard underneath the retractable television. The designers of this barndo have considered every possibility for saving space and keeping the home looking orderly. This is incredibly important for barndos with limited space and we think it is executed very well here.
Bedrooms
The bedrooms in this Athens Georgia Barndominium are comfortable and neat-looking. We love the area rug in the master bedroom that separates it from the feel of the rest of the home.
The elegant light fixtures in the bedrooms give them an ornate atmosphere that brings the warmth of the light further down in the room. This allows it to penetrate all corners of the rooms and make them feel bigger.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms in this Athens Georgia Barndominium are the crown jewels of the home. The detailed, inlaid tile in the master bathroom is intricate and artistic and makes it absolutely breathtaking.
The luxurious master bath is bright and clean looking with a white and gold color scheme that screams elegance. We love how the designers of this barndo have not sacrificed style in this area of the home.
The main bathroom features an ornate vanity that matches with the refined style of the master bath. However, with the same polished hardwood floors as the rest of the home, it is able to maintain an inviting feel that is much better suited to guests.
Conclusion
The fantastic design and undeniable grandeur of this Athens Georgia Barndominium is incredibly charming. We love the wonderfully designed interior that manages to be both accessible and classically chic.
