So grab a blanket, get comfortable, and take a closer look at this charming Kansas barndominium.

Overview

This is a Kansas barndominium by the James family and an example of why barndos make such great family homes. There’s 1,440 square feet of living space and 12-foot ceilings throughout, offering plenty of room for the entire family. They moved in just about a year ago, and it’s been the right fit for their lifestyle.

The house features 10-foot deep porches with a screened-in back section that’s 26′ x 16′. Their garage is a roomy 24′ x 34, while the matching barn on the property is an impressive 40′ x 60′, with lean-tos running the full length of both sides.

The home was built by Quality Structures Incorporated (QSI), with interior work and some structural changes handled by Larry Lochner from Lochner Homes, a trusted local builder.

This is the James family’s third build with QSI, having previously worked with them on two barns before deciding to build their home. They chose Lochner Homes for the interior because of their reputation for quality, and they were thrilled with the results.

Exterior

What first greets you at the James family’s Kansas barndominium is the inviting wraparound porch. A wraparound porch offers both style and function, making it a favorite for those who enjoy outdoor living. It’s a space to relax, sip coffee in the morning, or watch the sunset in the evening.

With lots of seating options, including a small outdoor breakfast nook, this space is versatile for both family gatherings and peaceful alone time.

The house features a beautiful cross-gable roof design, which adds dimension and character to the exterior. The gray metal siding, paired with stone accents, gives the home a modern yet rustic feel that blends quite well with the Kansas landscape.

The metal siding is a practical choice, too. This is a common feature among barndos because they’re durable enough to withstand the elements through all seasons.

On the side of the home, you’ll find a wide garage door that’s both functional and stylish. It gives easy access to the large garage, which is big enough for vehicles, tools, and even a home workshop.

This combination of materials and thoughtful design makes this barndominium not just a home but also a stunning complement to the countryside.

Interior

The interior of the James family Kansas barndominium embraces a contemporary style with neutral tones. Grays, whites, and wood accents dominate the color palette, creating a calm, elegant backdrop.

However, the touches of fall decor bring warmth and personality to the space. Seasonal decorations, like pumpkins, leaves, and autumnal colors, are scattered throughout, adding a homey atmosphere that changes with the seasons.

There’s something special about bringing the outdoors inside, and fall decor lets you do just that. It keeps the home feeling fresh and festive without overwhelming the neutral tones.

Sunroom

One standout feature of this home is the sunroom. A sunroom is essentially a space enclosed by large windows that bring in natural light and offer views of the outdoors, all while keeping you sheltered inside.

In this Kansas barndominium, the sunroom gives you wonderful views of the outside while letting light flood the room. It’s a luxury that brings a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe to the house.

Adding a sunroom to your barndominium not only increases the aesthetic appeal but also offers a peaceful space to unwind.

Living Area

As you step into the living area, you’re greeted by soft gray walls paired with matching gray wood floors. This neutral palette makes the space feel modern and timeless.

This living room is designed for comfort, with plenty of plush seating. There’s a corner sofa for lounging and several swivel recliners for those who want to enjoy a movie or sit and chat. This layout brings the whole family together to watch TV, talk, or simply relax.

Kitchen & Dining

Connected directly to the living room is the kitchen and dining area. Open-concept designs are popular for a reason. The open-concept layout allows a smooth flow between these spaces, making it easy to cook, entertain, and spend time with the family without feeling isolated.

The kitchen boasts white cabinetry and sleek black steel appliances. Accent lighting on the counters and cabinets highlights the smaller details – like the delicate fall décor knick-knacks – that add character to the space.

The large kitchen island has seating, too. It’s a great spot for casual meals or chatting while someone prepares dinner. As you cook, the natural light shines through the windows, giving you breathtaking views of the outdoors while bringing the beauty of nature inside. Meanwhile, the dining nook is nestled in a corner.

A dedicated pantry room keeps the kitchen organized and clutter-free.

Bedrooms

The bedrooms in this Kansas barndominium just scream cozy. The autumn-themed decor really shines here, adding vibrant pops of color.

The commanding bed frame gives a luxurious feel to the master bedroom, while the painted reclaimed wood side table adds rustic charm. There’s also a TV mounted opposite the bed, creating a mini-entertainment setup for those lazy evenings.

Bathrooms

The bathrooms in this home are as practical as they are stylish. The master bathroom features a double vanity to give the family ample space for morning routines. There’s a shower and tub combo for a relaxing bath or a quick rinse.

Another bathroom has a dedicated shower room with a sleek modern design, giving everyone in the house their own space to unwind and refresh.

Utility Rooms

The James family has a well-thought-out laundry room that doubles as a mudroom. This space is practical, with storage for coats, shoes, and other outdoor gear.

The closet spaces throughout the home give the family plenty of room to store their belongings and keep the house organized. It’s these little features that add to the home’s overall convenience and functionality.

Garage

Let’s not forget the garage. This spacious two-car garage is more than just a place for parking vehicles. It also has a leather couch on the side, turning it into a hangout space where the boys can gather and relax.
