Exterior
One of the things that tend to make people uneasy about building a shouse is the exterior. With the shop portion being prominent in a lot of these homes, the house itself can take a back seat. However, this home is absolutely stunning and draws so much attention, we barely noticed the shop. It has a style all its own and enough details to keep you interested the longer you look at it.
The most prominent feature of the exterior of this shouse is the large array of windows. The combination of glass and bright white exterior paint makes for a clean, modern look. This is truly a home that has been thoroughly thought-out and designed to be as inviting as possible. The way the windows are arranged shows just how much the designers of this home planned it out.
The shop portion of this Nebraska shouse is located in the rear in relation to the entrance. This is not only a great way to make the home the focus, but it also has a practical purpose. Keeping the work-related areas in the back means that the people living in the home won’t be disturbed. This can be a difficult balance to strike with a shop house but it is done very well here.
We also absolutely love the dual-covered porches on this shouse. The fact that one of them doubles as a balcony is a great use of space and creates wonderful asymmetry. This is one of the things that makes this Nebraska shouse such a unique home. The modern profile it cuts is absolutely beautiful and stands out from the surrounding landscape.
Interior
Living Area
Once inside, we can see exactly how that large array of windows pays off in the interior. It gives the outside its unique look but also allows for a massive flow of natural light. That light is so important in metal post-frame buildings and the designers have nailed it here. It brings so much of that beautiful Nebraska sky into the building and lights up the dining area.
We also adore the long staircase that goes up to the loft-style second floor. If we had to pick one thing this Nebraska shouse did best it would be the use of space. Having the second floor sit above the kitchen and leaving the ceiling open is brilliant. It gives this whole area a large, opulent feel that really breathes and feels light and airy.
Speaking of the ceiling, the beams that adorn the upper region are incredibly striking. Adding beams like this to your ceiling can add a wonderful illusion of height. In this particular shouse, there is no illusion necessary but they accentuate the actual height so well. They also add a rustic feel to the otherwise contemporary home, as do the light fixtures.
The view from the second floor is absolutely stunning. The combination of colors and textures is wonderfully coordinated. It also matches well with the outdoor landscape, which is easy to see through the large windows. Utilizing both the interior and exterior is so important, especially if your exterior is so beautiful.
Kitchen
The kitchen in this Nebraska shouse has a secret weapon: a pop of color. The turquoise chairs on the island and the cabinets under the range are a fantastic touch. We also love the continuation of the modern, minimalist light fixtures. Having these over the island creates a warm glow as well as a fantastic design element.
The combination of textures in the kitchen is simply amazing. The subway tile backsplash and the stainless steel appliances are so modern. However, the white cabinets and artisan craftsmanship also bring a touch of rustic charm. This is a beautiful combo and we think it is done so well here.
Bathroom
The bathroom features one of the most clever design choices in this Nebraska shouse. The continuation of that subway tile from the kitchen to the bathroom is so charming. It ties the spaces together and is so subtle, we just love it. We also adore the granite countertop and color scheme, which creates a warm, inviting feeling.
Shop and Garage
We can’t talk about this Nebraska shouse without talking about the shop. The shop in this home is massive and sparsely decorated to get real work done. With enough room for almost any job, this is a wonderful addition. The high ceilings create a professional look and feel and the concrete floor is tough enough for any job.
